The sound isn't great, so here's what I said, "My name is Steve Ahlquist. I am the president of the Humanists of Rhode Island. To the extent that I am able to represent the views of the non=believing community in our state and in light of recent events here, as well as in North Carolina and Texas, I am proud to stand in solidarity with the faith community.
"Rhode Island was founded to be a safe haven for all people of good conscience, a lively experiment in community. But sometimes experiments give less than desirous results. That's the nature of science: We can sometimes learn more from our mistakes than from our successes.
"It is my sincere hope that today we might all learn something about tolerance and acceptance."
