January 16, 2012

My Martin Luther King Day became unexpectedly poignant when I was picked up by my friend Jenny to go to her house in West Warwick to tape an interview she was doing with sixty-nine year old Ken Fish, a man who has been an out homosexual for over forty years, and has seen the battle for gay rights from a generational perspective. When he recounted the friends he watched die of AIDS, or the ongoing fight he has been engaged in for decades to attain something full equality, I actually felt choked up. With luck i will get the entire interview posted online soon.

Then my day completely shifted gears as I went to Three Sisters in Providence and held our monthly project planning meeting for the Humanists of Rhode Island. Three members I had not met before showed up, and the meeting went really well. Our group is truly just starting to take of, and we have nothing but potential.

After the Humanists meeting I went across ton to the Rhode Island Atheists meeting, because we had accidentally scheduled our meeting the same night. No matter, our meeting was at 6, there's was at 7:30, and anyone who wanted to make both meetings could.

I have more to say on all this, but it's late and I'm tired.

And i just noticed I didn't set this to post at midnight, so here it is, late.
