January 12, 2012

What a day. Got up, took a bus downtown to the headquarters of the Rhode island ACLU and made a video of Jessica Ahlquist's Press Conference. Jessica, in case you've been unaware, just won her lawsuit against the City of Cranston concerning an unconstitutional "Prayer banner" on display in the auditorium of her high school, Cranston West. Very big news that has the theocrats all very upset, ranting and raving all over talk radio and the Internet. Jess puts up with a lot of bullying behavior at school, but some of this stuff borders on hate crime.

After the press conference I worked on editing the John M. Barry video I shot last night. At 90 minutes it's pretty long, but I didn't want to cut anything out. It was a great talk by a terrific writer concerning one of the most important historical figures of all time, Roger Williams. Here it is:

The subject of Roger Williams came up at the press conference, and comparisons were drawn between his circumstances and Jessica's case. The rest of my day, beside visiting my father-in-law at the hospital (he's doing much better and may be released tomorrow) was spent editing the Press Conference, and sorting through the enormous amount of email I'm getting concerning the case, and the preparations for the various activities planned for the weekend, including Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, the FFRF Group Photo on Sunday, and the Humanist meeting on Monday, as well as the Atheist meeting also on Monday.  And Tuesday night I'll probably be down at the Cranston School Board Meeting to watch them vote on whether or note to appeal Jessica's case.

Whew.

It's been a hell of a day.
